Software Engineering Manager at Microsoft

We are the Cloud Native Platform Group at Microsoft and as part of the Azure Linux team, you will be leading a team to build the future of Linux in the Azure Cloud and on the edge through our Azure Linux distribution.
In this role, you will be managing an engineering team to expand our Azure Linux OS Distribution to enable new AI accelerator technologies in Azure, contributing to the technical direction in how Azure first party services can fully utilize Azure Linux to enable new AI scenarios. You will be working closely with the broader Linux community, contributing code to Open-Source projects (Linux, CNCF, etc.). You will define and push the limits of innovative technologies -- working with the latest hardware, the largest servers, and even larger datacenters.

Responsibilities
- Responsible for managing a team to design, build, deploy, and iterate on new AI accelerator technologies in our Azure Linux OS distribution.
- Drive key open-source initiatives within Microsoft in an open manner that contribute to Linux adoption in Azure.
- Ensure customer success by troubleshooting and fixing complex issues that customers and operators encounter running Azure Linux.
- Proactively seek new knowledge and adapt to new trends, technical solutions, and patterns that will improve Linux for AI accelerators at scale.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, Rust, or Golang OR equivalent experience.
Other Requirements:
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, Rust, or Golang OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, Rust, or Golang OR equivalent experience.
- 2+ years people management experience.
- Experience in building Linux Distributions, Containers, Cloud technologies in Linux at scale.
- Experience with Microsoft Azure, AWS, or similar cloud computing platform(s).
- Experience in hardware bring-up and AI accelerator technologies (GPUs) with Linux.
- Contributions to open-source projects, like the Linux kernel or CNCF projects.
