The Software Engineer Intern role at Microsoft will allow you to optimize and advance a live AI-powered learning tool by defining new features, collaborating with teammates, and innovating through telemetry, evaluation tooling, and high-quality testing.
Responsibilities
- Apply engineering principles to solve complex problems creatively.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to determine user requirements.
- Quickly learn and incorporate new engineering methods.
- Improve build processes, reliability, and performance of products.
- Apply Microsoft’s Responsible AI practices in testing and feedback loops.
- Participate in cross‑group projects to provide improvement recommendations.
Qualifications
Required: Pursuing a Bachelor's in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field with at least 1 year of undergraduate studies and programming experience in an object-oriented language. Preferred: Understanding of data structures, algorithms, and familiarity with AI/ML projects, including tools like TensorFlow, PyTorch, or scikit-learn. Experience with AI code assistants and working cross-team is also beneficial.
Compensation & Internship Details
This internship is 100% remote, available from any U.S. location, running from June 15, 2026, through August 7, 2026. Compensation ranges from USD $5610.00 to $11010.00 per month (with different ranges for some U.S. metro areas). Applications are accepted on a rolling basis for a minimum of 5 days.
