About Microsoft Software Engineer II

Azure VMware Solution (AVS) empowers enterprises to run VMware workloads natively on Azure. We are seeking a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) to join our AVS engineering team. This role is ideal for engineers who thrive in high-scale, hybrid cloud environments and are passionate about improving service reliability, operational excellence, and customer experience.

Responsibilities

  • Own reliability, availability, and performance of AVS infrastructure and services.
  • Lead incident response and perform thorough root cause analysis for complex issues.
  • Design and implement automation for detection, mitigation, and recovery.
  • Develop and maintain monitoring, alerting, and telemetry systems.
  • Participate in onboarding, code/design reviews, and routine engineering meetings.
  • Independently develop code or scripts to automate repetitive tasks.
  • Design and maintain telemetry pipelines and monitoring tools for operations metrics.
  • Respond to incidents during regular on-call rotations.

Qualifications

Required: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field and 2+ years technical engineering experience including coding in languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, Go, Powershell or Python; 2+ years in SRE, DevOps, or systems engineering roles; 2+ years experience with cloud infrastructure (preferably Azure) and virtualization technologies, especially VMware vSphere, vSAN, NSX.

Additional Requirements & Preferred Qualifications

Successful candidates may be required to meet Microsoft and government security screening requirements. Additional preferred qualifications include higher degree qualifications and Broadcom/VMware Certifications.

Compensation & Application Deadline

The base pay range for this role in the U.S. is approximately USD 100,600 to 199,000 per year, with variations for specific high-cost areas. Microsoft will accept applications until October 15, 2025.
