Overview
Join the Azure Platform Performance team at Microsoft as a Software Engineer II to help improve Azure Boost performance and deliver faster, more consistent VM/BareMetal experiences across Azure. Azure Boost is Microsoft’s cutting‑edge hardware/software offload system that moves key virtualization work (networking, storage, host management) from the host OS onto purpose‑built components. In this role, you will contribute to system performance improvements, drive diagnostics across the VM/host stack, and grow your technical influence by partnering across teams to turn performance data into measurable customer impact.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to improving performance and consistency, reduce resource usage across the stack on Azure Boost-enabled infrastructure.
- Perform deep-dive investigations for top performance issues, identify root causes, implement fixes, and perform validations.
- Add and/or improve performance instrumentation and tooling for end-to-end diagnostics.
- Share findings clearly with partner teams and technical audiences.
- Support Linux‑related performance investigations and contribute expertise during escalations.
- Collaborate effectively across teams to drive improvements.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, and C++, OR equivalent experience.
Other Requirements
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 3+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, and C++. OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 5+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, and C++. OR equivalent experience.
- 2+ years of experience developing code for system level for Linux.
- 2+ years of experience with debugging, performance triage, and root‑cause analysis.
- 1+ years of working on OS concepts in areas not limited to storage and systems, computer networking, cloud computing.
- 1+ years of experience with Linux performance analysis and profiling tools.
