Overview

The Research Intern - Cloud Reliability & Efficiency role at Microsoft offers a dynamic environment to launch a research career. Interns work in world-class research labs, collaborating with renowned scientists and engineers to advance AI, systems, and cloud research.

About the Role

In M365 Research, you will work to pioneer advancements in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Systems. Responsibilities include working on improving reliability and observability, workload-aware compute resource placement, fault injection, and mining dependency graphs for web-scale systems. Over a 12-week period, you will collaborate with doctoral candidates, mentors, and multiple research teams, presenting findings and contributing to innovative research and development.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with research teams and product groups.
  • Engage in innovative systems and cloud research challenges.
  • Present research findings internally and externally.
  • Publish peer-reviewed articles and contribute to open-source projects.

Qualifications

Required qualifications include enrollment in a PhD program in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related STEM field, with at least 1 year of research experience and peer-reviewed publications. Preferred qualifications include experience with distributed systems, cloud infrastructure and software development.

Compensation & Additional Details

Internship base pay ranges from USD $6,710 - $13,270 per month (or USD $8,760 - $14,360 in select locations). Additional benefits may be available. Interns are expected to work at their manager's Microsoft worksite location during the internship.
