About the Role

The Research Intern - Artificial Intelligence position is based at Microsoft Research Asia – Vancouver lab, part of Microsoft Research Asia’s expansion into the Asia-Pacific region. Interns work on projects including multimodality, world model, LLM, and computer vision, collaborating with researchers from labs in Vancouver, Redmond, Beijing, and beyond.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research on state-of-the-art AI methodologies.
  • Prototype and optimize novel AI methodologies.
  • Collaborate with mentors and global research teams.
  • Present research findings internally and externally.
  • Disseminate results through publications and conferences.

Additional Responsibilities

Interns will leverage interdisciplinary expertise across NLP, LLM, computer vision and more to drive innovation. The role includes independent research work as well as teamwork, with emphasis on publication and community engagement.

Qualifications

Required: Currently enrolled in a Master or Ph.D. program in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics or related fields.

Preferred: Solid programming skills, experience in LLM, multimodality, world model, AI4Code, and research publications in top-tier conferences.

Internship Details

This is a 12-week internship where candidates are expected to be physically located at their manager’s Microsoft worksite. Applicants need to provide at least two reference letters and a cover letter along with work or research samples.
