Overview of the Finance Manager, Windows and Devices Role
The Windows and Devices (W+D) business at Microsoft encompasses Windows Device Licensing and Surface first-party businesses, generating approximately $20B in annual revenue. Windows is strategically vital, serving as the foundation for Microsoft's Consumer (Search, Office, Gaming) and Commercial (Data & AI, Infrastructure, Modern Work, Biz apps) operations. The dynamic PC market, especially with the emergence of AI PCs and Neural Processing Units (NPU), offers unique challenges and opportunities.
As a Finance Manager, Windows and Devices, you will drive significant impact across investment planning, channel incentives, investment strategy, and performance storytelling. This role involves extensive collaboration with diverse business partners, including Marketing, Category Management, Sales, Data Science, Investments, and Supply Chain teams. The W+D Finance Team seeks an individual who can apply strong analytical skills, business acumen, and thought leadership to partner with Sales and Marketing, shaping strategy and delivering impactful outcomes for the broader W+D organization. Comfort with ambiguity, navigation of a matrixed environment, and a proven ability to influence business partners for superior outcomes are key.

Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate financial and non-financial business metrics to determine business drivers and accurately forecast future trends.
- Lead W+D investment planning through meticulous analysis, financial modeling, and collaboration with business stakeholders.
- Provide product, marketing, and sales leaders with actionable insights to facilitate informed decision-making.
- Cultivate strong relationships with sales and category teams operating in competitive and dynamic markets.
- Address business challenges to boost sales, maximize ROI, and mitigate business risks through corrective actions within a matrixed environment.
- Deliver data-backed insights, even when challenging, to business partners and drive alignment on remediation plans.
- Exhibit expert-level proficiency in financial modeling and sensitivity analysis.
- Enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of core finance activities via improved reporting, automation, process excellence, and detailed analytics.
- Maintain a current understanding of Microsoft's financial systems, policies, and processes to assess impacts of changes and drive continuous improvements.
- Actively embody Microsoft's culture and values.
Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Data Science, or a related field; OR
- Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Data Science, or a related field AND 2+ years of experience in financial analysis, accounting, controllership, finance, or a related field; OR equivalent experience.
Additional or Preferred Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Data Science, or a related field AND 3+ years of post-graduate financial analysis, accounting, controllership, or finance work experience; OR
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Data Science, or a related field AND 5+ years of post-graduate financial analysis, accounting, controllership, or finance work experience; OR equivalent experience.
- Demonstrated collaboration, teamwork, and business partnership skills.
- Adept financial analysis and modeling skills, with a hands-on approach and willingness to dive into details.
- Passion for quality work and a strong drive, coupled with the ability to effectively prioritize multiple workstreams while maintaining meticulous attention to detail and meeting tight deadlines.
- Capability to manage diverse stakeholders in ambiguous situations, bringing partners along with thought leadership and the finance agenda, demonstrating tenacity and innovative thinking.
- Proven track record of influencing business decisions through proactive financial analysis and insights.
- Excellent communication skills for engaging various audiences, including management and leadership.
- Knowledge of the industry (preferred but not mandatory).
