Overview

The M365 Core organization at Microsoft is seeking Mid Level and Senior Applied Scientists for our Development Centers in UK, Estonia, Czech Republic, and Romania. In this role, you will advance artificial intelligence, machine learning, and model optimization within Microsoft 365's core services.

Role Description

As an Applied Scientist/Senior Applied Scientist, you will work on fine-tuning large language models (LLMs) and developing task-specific agents powering features such as Copilot, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, and OneDrive. You will collaborate closely with engineers and researchers in deep learning and natural language processing to enhance productivity, collaboration, and security for enterprise customers. This is a research-driven position that values deep thinking, advanced development techniques, and entrepreneurial execution.

Responsibilities

• Conduct R&D to push the boundaries of model training, evaluation, and quality assessment.
• Fine-tune LLMs on tenant data for task-specific solutions.
• Collaborate with engineers and researchers to advance deep learning and NLP.
• Measure, analyze, and report on model performance using predictive analytics.
• Foster an inclusive culture of respect, integrity, and innovation.

Qualifications

Required qualifications include a Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctorate in a relevant field with proven experience in AI/ML and model fine-tuning, preferably with large language models. Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Python is required. Experience in productizing and shipping ML/AI components at internet scale is essential.

Other Requirements

Candidates must meet Microsoft, customer, and government security screening requirements including the Microsoft Cloud Background Check.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred credentials include advanced degrees in relevant fields, experience in creating publications such as patents or academic papers, and proficiency in building Generative AI pipelines (e.g., with Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG)).
