Rust Developer - Backend API Specialist

Join our customer’s team as an experienced Backend Developer. In this high-impact, remote role, you’ll design, implement, and enhance robust backend APIs while collaborating with teams advancing AI research and model development. You’ll play a key role in testing and improving AI-powered developer tools, shaping the next generation of intelligent software systems.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and optimize REST and GraphQL endpoints for scalable APIs.
• Implement strong data validation, error handling, and security best practices across backend services.
• Plan and execute database migrations, optimizations, and schema changes as needed.
• Test new AI-powered models in Cursor, providing detailed feedback via incident reports, bug traces, and screenshots.
• Participate in intensive testing cycles, evaluating how AI models impact real-world coding workflows.
• Collaborate with the research team on Slack, discussing findings and suggesting improvements.
• Submit comprehensive surveys and reports to enhance product and model performance.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• 5+ years of professional experience as a Backend Developer with strong expertise in Rust.
• Proven experience building and maintaining RESTful and GraphQL APIs.
• Deep understanding of backend data validation, error handling, and API security.
• Hands-on experience with database migrations, query optimization, and schema design.
• Practical use of AI-assisted coding tools; familiarity with Cursor is highly desirable.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, especially in reporting and documentation.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, confidential, and collaborative remote environment.
