The Role of an Investment Associate - Hedge Fund US Equities

As an Investment Associate, you will be instrumental in the investment process, contributing to in-depth financial analysis and idea generation for US equities. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Building and maintaining comprehensive three-statement financial models for covered companies.
  • Developing and presenting investment ideas with Assistant Portfolio Managers (APMs), from initial hypothesis to final investment recommendation.
  • Refreshing financial models promptly with quarterly results, guidance updates, M&A activity, and capital actions.
  • Reviewing earnings-call and expert-call transcripts to identify key performance indicators (KPIs) and fundamentals-driving metrics.
  • Curating and maintaining a comprehensive knowledge base, including transcripts, interviews, and channel checks.
  • Preparing detailed earnings previews and "cheat sheets" highlighting key debates and metrics for monitoring.
  • Maintaining industry-specific data sets such as Total Addressable Market (TAM), market share, commodity inputs, and macro/pricing trackers.
  • Conducting an overnight news and filing sweep to deliver a concise pre-market digest.
  • Codifying step-by-step Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for model refreshes, screen runs, and data pulls to ensure efficiency and consistency.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will possess a strong analytical foundation and practical experience in financial markets:

  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a closely related field.
  • 3-6 years of relevant experience in equity research, investment banking, or a buy-side analyst position.
  • Expert-level proficiency in Excel, including advanced modeling and Power Query, coupled with solid accounting intuition.
  • Familiarity with financial data terminals such as Bloomberg, FactSet, or Capital IQ.
  • Excellent written English communication skills, with the ability to distill complex information into clear and concise bullet points.
  • (Optional but highly valued) Working knowledge of Python or VBA for data wrangling and automation.
  • (Optional but highly valued) Experience in building data pipelines (e.g., SQL/Snowflake) or developing dashboards (e.g., Power BI/Tableau).
  • (Optional but highly valued) Exposure to alternative-data sources like app-rank data, web-traffic analysis, or sensor data.
