Overview

The Higher Scientist - Genomics works within the Research & Development function of the Science, Research & Innovation group at MHRA. This is a full-time, fixed term contract (12 months) role based in South Mimms, Hertfordshire, UK.

The Role

This role involves two main areas:

  • Supporting activities to manage the material production facility.
  • Contributing to regulatory research within the Genomics team for standardisation of molecular diagnostics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage document control, equipment servicing, and lab housekeeping in a newly established facility.
  • Provide training and support for facility users.
  • Create, maintain, and characterise cell banks for standardisation projects.
  • Utilise genomic technologies to characterise candidate materials.
  • Ensure compliance with SOPs and regulatory requirements.
  • Communicate effectively, present data, and contribute to reports and peer-reviewed manuscripts.
  • Work flexibly across multiple projects both independently and in collaboration.

Who We Are Looking For

  • MSc in a relevant biological science or BSc with minimum 1 year laboratory experience.
  • Experience in creating, maintaining, and characterising cell banks.
  • Understanding of cancer genomic molecular diagnostics.
  • Excellent analytical skills with data interpretation software capabilities.
  • Strong behaviours including Delivering at Pace, Working Together and Communicating and Influencing.
