Your Role as K-5 Assessment Specialist
As the K-5 Assessment Specialist, you will be MGT’s primary expert in K–5 assessment design. Your main responsibility will be leading the development of high-quality diagnostic, formative, and instructional-aligned assessments. This is a critical client-facing role that requires strong content expertise, excellent collaboration skills, and the ability to deliver high-quality work under tight deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
Assessment Design & Development
- Lead the visioning, blueprinting, and design phases of K–5 assessments across various content areas.
- Develop comprehensive item specifications, rubrics, scoring guides, and robust assessment frameworks.
- Perform thorough reviews and ensure quality assurance on all assessment drafts.
- Ensure strict alignment of assessments to state standards and instructional best practices.
Client-Facing Expertise
- Serve as MGT’s dedicated assessment expert in all client meetings and presentations.
- Provide clear, compelling rationales for assessment design decisions and effectively communicate complex concepts to non-specialist audiences.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships through collaborative planning, responsive communication, and demonstrated content expertise.
Collaboration & Guidance
- Offer expert guidance and constructive feedback on assessments, working closely with writers and content editors.
- Provide informal mentorship and support to team members, without direct management responsibilities.
What You'll Bring
Required Experience & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Educational Measurement, Psychology, Human Development, Learning Sciences, or a closely related field.
- Six (6) or more years of dedicated experience in K–5 assessment design, educational measurement, curriculum/assessment development, or similar roles.
- Demonstrated expertise in designing custom (non-standardized) assessments specifically for early grades.
- Strong working knowledge of state academic standards and state assessment systems.
- Proven experience in developing diverse assessment item types, rubrics, and blueprints for both diagnostic and formative purposes.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and provide expert guidance.
- Capacity to manage multiple priorities efficiently and deliver high-quality work within tight timelines.
Preferred Experience
- Background as an assessment or curriculum manager/director within a school district, education consultancy, or curriculum/assessment company.
- Direct experience working with K–5 teachers, instructional leaders, or district administrators.
- Familiarity with assessment validity, reliability, and best-practice measurement principles (psychometrics specialization not required).
- Prior experience in a client-facing role or consulting capacity.
Note: This is a 1099 part-time role.
