Patient Care Assistant (Medical Assistant)
Metro Infusion Center, affiliated with Metro Infectious Disease Consultants, is seeking a full-time Patient Care Assistant (Medical Assistant) to join our clinic in Austin, TX. This role is crucial for supporting our back-office operations with occasional front desk duties. Responsibilities may evolve based on management discretion.
Back Office Responsibilities
- Escort patients from reception to exam rooms, accurately documenting vital signs (height, weight, blood pressure, temperature).
- Document the patient's chief complaint and alert the doctor when the patient is ready to be seen.
- Maintain exam rooms by stocking supplies each morning and cleaning them between patients.
- Manage the inventory of medical supplies, completing requisitions promptly to prevent depletion.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by management.
Front Office Responsibilities
- File all scanned paperwork daily.
- Fax clinic schedules to referring physicians for the next clinic day.
- Prepare weekly travel charts.
- Open and distribute mail daily.
- Print the schedule for the following clinic day and verify that all progress notes and super-bills are attached.
- Order office supplies.
- Answer telephone calls and page consultations to physicians, including necessary patient and hospital details.
- Schedule appointments for new and existing patients according to guidelines, providing directions for new patients.
- Handle and process billing information daily.
- Handle and process dictation, letters, and physician orders daily.
- Register patients, update patient demographics, and make copies of vital information.
- Collect co-payments and past due balances at the check-in/check-out desk.
- Coordinate and process referral information for managed care patients.
- Process medical records requests.
- Obtain laboratory specimens, complete requisitions, and prepare samples for lab pick-up, documenting all actions in the Medical Record.
- Ensure superbills are completed at visit end, including visit codes, diagnoses, and ordered labs.
Requirements
- Minimum of one year of clinical practice experience, preferably in an office setting.
- Comfortable performing back-office responsibilities.
- High school education or equivalent.
- Proof of current vaccinations, including recommended boosters for immunocompromised patients (measles, mumps, rubella, varicella, hepatitis A & B, influenza, and COVID-19).
