Software Engineering Manager Responsibilities:
- Engineering Coach: Provide specific, balanced feedback and conduct regular one-on-one meetings to foster growth.
- Results-Oriented Execution: Focus on helping the team achieve goals by removing obstacles and acting as a vital resource. Collaborate with the team on day-to-day tasks and communications. Work closely with leadership to set high-level project goals and directions, ensuring successful execution.
- Communication: Engage in active listening, share information transparently, and promote open dialogue. Coordinate with all disciplines to schedule and track key work.
- Clear Roadmap and Strategy: Establish clear goals, provide direction, and ensure the team understands how their contributions align with the larger vision.
- Leverage Technical Skills: Utilize technical expertise to understand team challenges and provide informed guidance.
- Support Career Development and Performance: Assist team members with career paths, offer growth opportunities, and hold regular performance discussions.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience.
- 6+ years of experience as an engineering manager with at least 5 direct reports, specifically in game development or with multiple shipped games.
- Experience building software with LLMs and AI-powered agents as a core product feature.
- Familiarity with AI coding tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, Co-Pilot, Codex, etc.
- Broad knowledge of software development practices and understanding of their appropriate application to teams.
- In-depth experience adapting to various communication and work styles.
- Demonstrated history of effective collaboration with cross-functional teams and organizations.
- Experience organizing and leading meetings for planning, scheduling, and discussions within the team.
- Working knowledge of 3D math and game foundation technologies and techniques (e.g., Transforms, Lerp).
- Proven experience growing and mentoring teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated expertise managing Graphics Engineers or Server Engineers.
- Experience working in C++ source code of 3D Game Engines.
