Job Description

Network Engineer, Operations & Support at Meta

The ProdLabs Deployment Engineer provides essential technical expertise for deploying, migrating, and supporting a wide range of network technologies within Meta’s lab (testbed) environments. This role is focused on hands-on execution of network deployments, migrations, and technology evaluations as part of the New Product Introduction (NPI) process. Responsibilities include conducting design reviews, preparing Method of Procedure (MOP) documents, configuring and testing equipment, and ensuring readiness for production-scale validation.

Responsibilities:

  • Deploy and support all facets of Meta’s network infrastructure in lab/testbed environments—including IP, optical, transport, wireless, and other emerging technologies.
  • Execute network migrations, technology rollouts, and capacity augments within the lab setting.
  • Prepare, review, and maintain MOPs tailored to lab deployments and experimental scenarios.
  • Configure, test, and validate a wide range of network equipment and systems to support NPI and technology evaluation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams—including engineering, NPI, and project management—to deliver complex lab initiatives and technology trials.
  • Ensure compliance with lab deployment standards, quality checks, and documentation requirements for all network technologies.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 7+ years of experience in network engineering, deployment, or lab/testbed environments.
  • Extensive hands-on experience deploying, configuring, and troubleshooting network equipment (routers, switches, optical, transport, wireless, and emerging technologies).
  • Advanced expertise in optical systems, including optical transport technologies, DWDM, optical network design, and troubleshooting.
  • Advanced familiarity with IP networking fundamentals (routing, switching, protocols such as BGP, OSPF, MPLS, etc.) and advanced network architectures.
  • Proven experience preparing and executing Method of Procedure (MOP) documents for complex deployments.
  • Advanced proficiency with network testing tools, methodologies, and lab infrastructure management.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technology evaluations, proof-of-concept testing, and readiness for production-scale validation.
  • Demonstrated collaboration and communication skills with cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow and improve deployment standards, quality checks, and documentation best practices.
  • Experience driving process improvements, automation, and scaling of lab/testbed operations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 10+ years of experience in network engineering, deployment, or lab/testbed environments.
  • Industry certifications such as CCNP/CCIE, JNCIP/JNCIE, or equivalent in networking or optical systems.
  • Expertise in advanced optical technologies (e.g., coherent optics, ROADM, optical performance monitoring, fiber characterization).
  • Experience with automation and scripting (Python, Bash, Ansible, etc.) for network and lab workflows.
  • Familiarity with emerging network technologies (e.g., 5G, Open Optical, SDN, NFV).
  • Experience designing and operating large-scale lab/testbed environments for new product introduction (NPI).
  • Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional technical initiatives and mentoring less experienced engineers.
  • Demonstrated analytical and troubleshooting skills across multiple network domains (IP, optical, transport, wireless).
  • Experience collaborating with hardware vendors and influencing product development.
  • Demonstrated technical documentation and presentation skills.
