Job Description

About the Role at Meta

Meta is actively seeking a Connectivity Engineer to join the Design Engineering and Construction (DEC) team. This pivotal role supports the foundation of Meta’s innovative services and rapidly scaling infrastructure within our global data centers. The DEC team is responsible for lighting up these data centers, delivering the essential physical infrastructure that connects the world to Meta’s vast server banks, which store videos, feeds, and other critical information.

As a Connectivity Engineer, you will provide crucial site-level support to ensure that DEC telecommunication projects are executed on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. You will serve as the primary point of contact for managing the entire project lifecycle, from initial kick-off through production turnover into operations. This role demands a highly collaborative approach, working closely with cross-functional partners at Data Center Headquarters, on-site contractors, and other global data centers.

Connectivity Engineer Responsibilities:

  • Project Planning & Control: Create, maintain, and report on site project and program scope, schedules, and milestones. Collaborate closely with the site project management team throughout the project lifecycle, from plan creation to close out.
  • Learnings: Continuously review ongoing projects to identify efficiencies in schedule and budget, and opportunities to empower cross-functional partners. Document data points to aid field coordination, support the development of project management best practices, coordinate SOPs/SIPs with vendors, and participate in global standards. Share lessons learned with the DEC Center of Excellence.
  • Forecasting: Support the project controls team with forecasting and budget efforts as required. Ensure crisp and complete handoffs between teams by sharing current project status with upstream and downstream partners.
  • Technical Reviews: Establish and track milestones for equipment purchases. Assist in the selection and review of contractors for structured cabling work within data centers.
  • Metrics: Report progress and risks on site projects and other initiatives to key stakeholders.
  • Workflow: Establish and track milestones with installation partners. Conduct pre-project planning, project handoffs, and ensure design delivery and verification. Proactively identify and respond to project risks and high-priority issues through effective action and escalation. Track and manage project change order requests.
  • Vendor Field Management: Oversee all connectivity activities (OSP/ISP) within construction projects on site, tracking and reporting actual progress against schedule expectations. Set clear expectations with the immediate site team, build strong relationships with installation partners, drive best practices, foster a safe working environment, and execute with a vision of ‘right first time.’
  • Quality Assurance: Conduct physical inspections to ensure vendor work meets DEC quality standards throughout the data center lifecycle. Validate physical installs, test reports, build accuracy, material and local code compliance, including constructability reviews across multiple design phases.
  • Technical Field Lead: Act as the technical lead for industry and Meta standards, responsible for leading product evaluation, design, and installation methods in the field, including scope clarification and design/installation details as the owner of the Request for Information (RFI) process.
  • Technical Coordination: Develop solutions for in-field scope-gap or clash issues. Partner with DEC design and engineering teams to digitally support design reviews, Bill of Material (BOM) reviews, and as-built drawing validations.
  • Communications & Cross-functional Team Engagement: Liaise with construction partners to ensure deliverables are met during new builds and retrofits. Coordinate with logistics partners, vendors, and suppliers for smooth end-to-end material flow. Proactively communicate progress, project risks, and initiatives to key stakeholders.
  • Safety: Ensure vendors adhere to safety obligations in accordance with local regulations and DEC Safety best practices. Lead a 'safety first' environment with open and transparent communication, acknowledging appropriate EHS practices.
  • Travel: This position is remote and will require a minimum of 50% travel.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5+ years’ experience in project management.
  • Experience engaging and guiding stakeholders.
  • Experience providing solutions to construction-related problems.
  • Experience with MS Office and Google Suites.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience reviewing and leading installations to design documents and specifications.
  • Data center development and/or construction management experience.
  • Experience with Primavera 6.
  • Experience managing IT or IP Network deployment projects in a mission-critical environment requiring coordination across multiple disciplines for the delivery of a common goal.
  • Experience in leading deployments of Network/Structured cabling infrastructure.
  • Experience with fiber optic testing at scale, inclusive of complex troubleshooting.
  • Experience with outside plant cabling (OSP) deployments, including OTDR/OLTS testing.
  • Experience with Quality Assurance and Quality Control, including progressive inspections and acceptance.
