About the Role: Associate General Counsel, Civil Litigation at Meta

Meta is seeking a highly proactive and experienced litigator to join as an Associate General Counsel, Civil Litigation. In this critical role, you will be responsible for leading and managing a diverse docket of complex civil disputes, with a strong focus on privacy law and GDPR-related matters, particularly within the context of collective redress actions such as class and representative-style proceedings, as well as multi-party and cross-border litigation.

  • Manage external counsel effectively to ensure high-quality work, align litigation strategies with business objectives, and maintain consistent legal positions across related matters.
  • Advise on pre-litigation dispute resolution, manage interim relief and injunction practices, and structure effective settlement strategies when appropriate.
  • Provide strategic advice to internal stakeholders on litigation risk and strategy, partnering with Product, Operations, Policy, and Communications teams.
  • Oversee matter budgets, reporting, and governance, ensuring timely updates and clear communication to leadership.
  • Monitor legal developments in German and EU civil procedure and litigation regimes, translating these into actionable guidance for the business.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Law degree or equivalent certificate permitting the practice of law, and appropriate licensing to practice in the assigned work location.
  • 8+ years of post-qualification experience.
  • Qualified lawyer in the EU.
  • Fluency in both German and English languages.
  • Extensive experience with complex civil litigation in Germany and substantial cross-jurisdictional experience managing parallel or related proceedings in other EU or international forums.
  • In-depth experience with German civil procedure and evidence rules.
  • Proven ability to navigate EU-level collective redress frameworks with a practical, business-oriented approach to resolving complex disputes efficiently and accurately.
  • Experience working effectively with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced, technology-driven environment.
  • Experience with content, integrity, and competition law, particularly as it relates to technology companies.
