About the Role

As an AI Research Scientist, Robotics at Meta, you will leverage your expertise in system design, modeling, and a broad understanding of various components and technologies. This role demands strong research and problem-solving abilities, coupled with hands-on fabrication and prototyping skills to conceptualize, develop, and construct innovative prototypes and architectures. You will be an integral part of a focused incubation team, collaborating extensively with a diverse group of scientists and engineers across the broader organization.

Responsibilities

  • Perform fundamental and applied research to advance the scientific and technological frontiers of embodied artificial intelligence.
  • Invent and improve novel data-driven paradigms for robotics, utilizing diverse modalities such as images, video, text, audio, and tactile feedback.
  • Investigate paradigms capable of delivering a spectrum of embodied behaviors, ranging from simulated characters to real robots, and from short-horizon, low-level to long-horizon, high-level intelligence.
  • Develop algorithms based on state-of-the-art machine learning and neural network methodologies.
  • Define, build, and benchmark new functionalities essential for the next generation of AI.
  • Conduct research aligned with long-term product goals while identifying crucial intermediate milestones.
  • Plan and execute novel research based on the organization's long-term objectives.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, a relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Currently holds or is actively pursuing a PhD degree in Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Language, a related field, or possesses equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience in any of the following research areas: robotics, motion planning, embodied AI, human-robot interaction, sim-to-real transfer, learning from demonstration, reinforcement learning, dexterous manipulation, digital agents, vision language models, computer vision, egocentric perception, and/or LLMs.
  • Experience in relevant robotics-related research areas, including VLM, robot learning, reinforcement learning, imitation learning, action-conditioned world models, task and motion planning, sim-to-real transfer robotic control, manipulation, navigation, or general embodied AI.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven experience in solving complex problems, evaluating alternative solutions, understanding tradeoffs, and determining optimal paths forward.
  • Practical experience working with both robot simulations and real-world hardware.
  • Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively in cross-functional team environments.
  • 2+ years of industry experience in relevant robotics research areas such as robot learning, reinforcement learning, imitation learning, action-conditioned world models, task and motion planning, sim-to-real transfer robotic control, manipulation, navigation, or general embodied AI.
  • A strong track record of significant achievements, evidenced by grants, fellowships, patents, or publications in leading workshops, journals, or conferences in Machine Learning (NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR), Robotics (ICRA, IROS, RSS, CoRL), and Computer Vision (CVPR, ICCV, ECCV).
  • Experience in manipulating and analyzing complex, large-scale, high-dimensionality data from various sources.
  • Proficiency in building systems based on machine learning and/or deep learning methods.
  • Demonstrated research and software engineering experience through internships, work experience, coding competitions, or impactful contributions to open-source repositories (e.g., GitHub).
  • Experience with deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch and TensorFlow, and strong Python programming skills.
