Who We're Looking For

We are searching for current or former owners and co-owners from a diverse array of industries. This includes, but is not limited to, retail, e-commerce, professional services (such as consulting, legal, and accounting), technology and software, hospitality and food and beverage, healthcare and wellness, creative and media, construction and trades, and various other small business sectors. Whether you are a new business owner or possess years of extensive operational experience, your unique insight into day-to-day decision-making processes is incredibly valuable for this project.

Key Responsibilities

• Engage the AI model with realistic small business scenarios and operational challenges.
• Evaluate AI outputs concerning budgeting, pricing, marketing strategy, hiring decisions, vendor management, customer communications, and basic compliance.
• Assess whether AI responses are practical and genuinely aligned with how Very Small Businesses operate in reality.
• Capture reproducible error traces to identify model shortcomings.
• Provide structured feedback to improve AI prompts, evaluation criteria, and real-world applicability.
• Help identify instances where models oversimplify trade-offs or misunderstand resource constraints common in VSB environments.

Qualifications and Experience

Direct experience owning or co-owning a small business is strongly preferred. Relevant experience also includes managing operations, finances, marketing, staffing, or growth strategy. We encourage applications from both entry-level business owners and seasoned entrepreneurs. A critical skill is clear, metacognitive communication – the ability to explicitly articulate the 'how' and 'why' behind decisions made in a real business context.

Compensation and Work Arrangement

We offer a flexible pay range of $6 to $65 per hour, with the exact rate tailored to your experience, expertise, and geographic location. Final offer amounts may vary. This is a freelance/contractor position; you will need to supply your own secure computer and high-speed internet. Company-sponsored benefits such as health insurance and PTO are not applicable to this role.
