Biomedical Technician at Mercy Ships
As a Biomedical Technician with Mercy Ships, you will be performing essential preventative maintenance and diagnostic repairs on a wide array of medical equipment. This unique ship-based role offers the chance to work on anesthetic systems, ventilators, CR X-ray, CT, Ultrasound imaging, OR and Ward equipment, YAG lasers and ophthalmic devices, autoclaves, oil-free compressors, dental suites, and generators up to 35KVA. You will also play a crucial role in training local biomedical technicians in partner country hospitals, contributing to sustainable healthcare solutions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Complete assigned preventive maintenance and other scheduled services efficiently.
- Document all repair activity accurately using the AIMS Biomedical Software equipment tracking and repair system.
- Perform diagnostic repairs on various medical equipment and systems, escalating complex issues to the supervisor.
- Communicate effectively with end-users regarding equipment status and proper operation.
- Participate in providing Biomedical training to hospital personnel in served countries, potentially living off-ship for this purpose.
- Solve practical problems and adapt skills in challenging work settings, interpreting various instructions.
- Collaborate with other technical staff to ensure consistency in operations.
- Ensure customer satisfaction and resolve problems, identifying areas for process improvement.
- Assist with securing electronic equipment prior to ship sails for maximum protection.
- Attend and participate in all devotions, Hospital Receptions, and other Hospital Functions as required.
- Function as an educator/preceptor for local healthcare providers and students in Mercy Ships training programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Fluent in English, with French language proficiency desired for local biomedical training programs.

- A full, clean driving license is preferred, as driving may be part of departmental responsibilities.
Education and Experience
- Technical or academic training in Electronics, Biomedical, Clinical, or Electronic Engineering.
- At least 2 years of experience as a Biomedical Technician, with preference for Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET).
- Previous mission work in a related biomedical environment and involvement in local biomedical training programs are preferred.
- Commitments exceeding 10 months require successful completion of the On Boarding program.
