Job Description
Position Summary
The Director Software Engineering will build and manage highly motivated, high-performing software engineering teams to support various business and technology areas at Mercury Insurance. The role includes hiring, mentoring, planning budgeting activities, collaborating with product managers, and ensuring that applications are secure, scalable, and high-quality.
Responsibilities
- Build and manage engineering teams through strong hiring and mentoring.
- Collaborate with product managers to estimate efforts and prioritize roadmaps.
- Design robust, modular, and scalable systems while leading hands-on implementations.
- Ensure systems are secure, compliant, and up to date with industry standards.
- Drive budgeting, planning, performance monitoring, and process improvements.
- Leverage CI/CD and process optimization to improve time to market.
- Assist in developing the technical vision, strategy and innovation for Mercury’s application systems.
- Communicate effectively with executive leadership to convey engineering vision.
Qualifications
A minimum of 10+ years of software engineering experience with over 7 years in leadership roles. A Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field is required, with a Master’s Degree preferred. Experience in managing large teams, supporting SaaS systems, and driving digital transformation is highly valued.
