Research Biologist at Mercor
Mercor, headquartered in San Francisco, connects elite creative and technical talent with leading AI research labs. Supported by investors including Benchmark, General Catalyst, Peter Thiel, Adam D'Angelo, Larry Summers, and Jack Dorsey, Mercor is looking for a Research Biologist.
This is a contract position with compensation ranging from $60-$80/hour, offered on a remote basis for approximately 2 months, requiring 20-40 hours per week.
Role Responsibilities
- Write original & advanced IBO-style biology problems to challenge frontier AI models.
- Evaluate AI-generated solutions for correctness, clarity, and style and identify where models fail.
- Identify logical flaws, incomplete reasoning, or insufficiently-rigorous proofs.
- Provide clear, concise, and correct solutions & chain of thought reasoning using proper LaTeX formatting.
- Maintain extremely high standards of precision and problem difficulty.
Qualifications
Must-Have
- Master’s or PhD in biology (or a related field), or Olympiad participant or medalist in the IBO or equivalent competitions.
- Deep understanding of your domain’s core theoretical and experimental concepts.
- Ability to articulate reasoning and derivations clearly in written form.
- Strong ability to evaluate the rigor and complexity of biology problems.
- Rigorous attention to detail in verifying solutions.
- Highly proficient in writing and formatting documents using LaTeX.
