Mercor connects elite creative and technical talent with leading AI research labs. Headquartered in San Francisco with top investors, Mercor is looking for a Math Competition Problem Writer.

Position Details

Role: Remote Math Specialist

Type: Independent Contractor

Compensation: $50–$85/hour

Duration: Approximately 2 months

Commitment: 20–40 hours/week

Role Responsibilities

  • Write original and advanced IMO-style mathematics problems.
  • Evaluate AI-generated solutions for correctness and clarity.
  • Identify logical flaws and incomplete reasoning in solutions.
  • Provide clear and rigorous chain of thought solutions.
  • Maintain high mathematical precision.
  • Work independently and asynchronously to meet deadlines.

Qualifications

Must-Have:

  • High proficiency in writing and formatting documents using LaTeX.
  • Expertise in algebra, combinatorics, and number theory.
  • Ability to articulate complex reasoning in written form.
  • Rigorous attention to detail in verifying solutions.
  • Independent and disciplined work style.

Preferred:

  • Experience as a problem writer, coach, selection committee member, or medalist.
  • Participation in math competitions such as IMO, USAMO, and others.

Start Date & Application Process

Rolling start dates; setup typically within 1–2 days of approval. The interview takes 20–30 minutes followed by a short form submission detailing your experience.

Compensation & Legal

Independent contractor arrangement with weekly payments via Stripe Connect. Open to contributors worldwide (English proficiency required).
