About MEMX
Members Exchange (MEMX) is seeking a skilled Surveillance Analyst to join its regulatory team, dedicated to monitoring and regulating its market. This role is crucial in upholding market integrity by detecting potential violations of both MEMX rules and federal securities regulations.
The Role of a Surveillance Analyst
The Surveillance Analyst will play an integral part in protecting the integrity of the market. You will leverage advanced analytical tools and surveillance systems to identify unusual or suspicious trading activity, conducting in-depth research to validate findings and determine appropriate actions. This position involves active communication with member firms and collaboration with internal operational and business units.
Key Responsibilities
- Utilize computer resources and specially designed applications to analyze and review unusual or suspicious trading activity and other surveillance system outputs.
- Conduct in-depth research and analysis using various market data tools and specialized software applications to validate surveillance output.
- Communicate with member firms, both orally and in writing, to gather information pertinent to activities under review.
- Analyze member firms' responses to ascertain if further investigation or action is required.
- Investigate potential issues escalated from MEMX's operational and business units.
- Assist in surveillance design, parameter, and user acceptance testing, as well as the creation and maintenance of surveillance procedures.
- Ensure surveillances remain current with MEMX business offerings and market structure changes, recommending enhancements as needed.
- Prepare memoranda to document the MEMX investigative process, member firm responses, and to propose dispositions.
- Research and respond to complaints from various sources.
- Analyze and research activity referred by other regulatory bodies.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of surveillance experience at either a broker-dealer or a regulatory body.
- Proven experience in surveillance of securities markets, specifically equities and/or equity derivatives.
- Comprehensive knowledge of U.S. markets and market structure.
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience demonstrating strong analytical capabilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Proficiency with PC applications such as Excel for analysis and the ability to quickly learn specialized applications.
- Strong data analytics capabilities, including the ability to write and execute SQL database searches.
- A self-starter who can work independently and effectively in a real-time environment.
