Position Summary
Reporting to the Manager, Communications and External Relations, the Social Media and Communications Advisor is responsible for developing messages and content strategies that keep employees and the communities Medavie serves informed and engaged. This role has a strong emphasis on content development, social media management, strategic communications planning, media relations support, and building strong relationships with internal business partners.
The Social Media and Communications Advisor will also assist in identifying opportunities to increase brand awareness and reputation. The ideal candidate has deep social media management expertise, thrives in a fast-paced environment, can set and manage priorities, and is a self-starter with exceptional writing skills.
Main Responsibilities
- Maintains a big picture view of the organization, issues and/or topics of relevancy and contributes to the creation and execution of internal communications strategies and tactics in support of business objectives.
- Leads the content strategy, including day-to-day tasks for all Medavie Health Services operations channels (social, web, etc), including planning and reporting.
- Supporting media inquiries and developing strategic key messages, media lines, and news releases.
- Supporting both reactive (crisis) and proactive communications.
- Provides advice and support on strategic communications; develops relationships with various business partners and senior leaders across the organization.
- Oversees, writes and edits content for (but not limited to): speaking remarks and scripts for employee events, presentations/materials, articles, corporate appointment announcements, key business updates, etc.; liaises directly with internal business partners to obtain relevant detail/input and deliver on task.
- Supports employee-focused engagement initiatives.
- Supports design requirements for communications needs, working with creative services.
Required Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Communications, Public Relations or other related field.
- Minimum of three years of experience in public relations, or communications demonstrated experience developing social media / content strategies and managing social media platforms.
- Good knowledge of social media platforms.
- Exceptional written communication skills, including editing, proofreading and attention to detail.
- A storyteller with an ability to take complex information and distill into digestible, engaging informative pieces for various audiences.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective relationships with internal and external partners.
- Ability to deal with highly confidential and sensitive subjects/issues in a professional manner.
- Solid time management skills, with the ability to balance multiple priorities and produce materials to meet tight deadlines.

- Understanding of best practices to communicate across a diverse, remote employee-base.
- Advanced skills with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Webex.
- Flexible to work outside of normal hours.
Language Skills
Bilingualism (French and English) is considered an asset, but not required, for this position.
