Purpose of the Clinical Pharmacist Role
The Clinical Pharmacist is primarily responsible for overseeing the daily operations and ensuring patient safety within an assigned patient care team. This includes managing pharmacy staff, providing clinical support to patients, and ensuring all prescriptions are dispensed in strict compliance with state, federal, and board of pharmacy laws. Additionally, this role manages inventory, fulfillment, and distribution activities at the pharmacy location, proactively monitoring medication and clinical supply levels to maintain adequate stock within budgetary guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical
- Conduct comprehensive pharmacotherapy reviews for each patient, encompassing drug utilization, counseling, compliance, drug interaction screening, side effect profiling, and administration support, to align treatment plans with evidence-based recommendations.
- Document pharmacotherapy review findings in patient charts to inform and educate the nursing team for follow-up assessments.
- Counsel patients on new drug therapies in accordance with clinical management models, ensuring patients are thoroughly educated on their treatment specifics.
- Complete REMS training and meticulously follow program Standard Operating Procedures.
- Coordinate patient care with referring clinicians, addressing social, psychological, and physical needs that require customized Biologics, Inc. services (e.g., pre-filled syringes, color-coded labeling), and document these services for fulfillment and distribution teams.
- Serve as a liaison for patients, caregivers, home health nurses, hospice nurses, and prescribing physicians/clinicians regarding orders, ensuring exceptional customer service.
- Provide subcutaneous teaching support for patients and caregivers, coordinating adequate nursing services with the prescribing clinician if necessary.
- Offer on-call coverage as directed by the Pharmacist-in-Charge to meet patient needs outside of standard operational hours.
- Process prescriptions accurately and timely to ensure efficient workflow for subsequent teams.
- Verify service discontinuation for each patient by assigning appropriate therapy outcomes and deactivating patient charts, prescriptions, and software profiles to inform the Patient Support group.
- Implement clinical management models for various products and disease states.
- Manage the primary intake for all new team referrals initiated via telephone.
- Uphold "outrageous customer service" as defined by Biologics’ internal policies.
- Understand and foster strong relationships with patients and clinicians.
Operations
- Strictly adhere to company policy regarding all government-funded payers, including Medicaid and Medicare.
- Dispense all medications pursuant to a physician’s order and in accordance with all state, federal, and board of pharmacy laws.
- Comply with all company policies, particularly those related to pharmacy operations.
- Adhere to federal and state laws concerning the purchase and dispensing of controlled substances.
- Verify the accuracy of prescription order entry to correct errors early and enhance workflow efficiency.
- Verify the accuracy and conduct quality assurance checks of the final prescription product.
- Assist pharmacy technicians in the adjudication of pharmacy claims to ensure accurate payment communication and collection.
- Monitor hazardous waste material management within the pharmacy.
- Understand and supervise the aseptic technique of pharmacy personnel.
- Oversee pharmacy technicians.
- Effectively utilize patient education materials.
- Perform intake and ensure appropriate reporting of adverse events and product quality complaints in accordance with regulatory and contractual obligations.
- Oversee Cell and Gene dispensing processes, ensuring compliance with state, federal, and manufacturer requirements.
Professional Development
- Meet or exceed current CE requirements as per Board of Pharmacy Laws.
- Support the professional development goals of staff within the assigned patient care team.
- Maintain a commitment to continuous learning and self-education within the pharmacy field.
- Attend conferences with peers and report on discussed topics at staff meetings.
Minimum Requirements
- A degree or equivalent and typically requires 4+ years of relevant experience.
Education/License
- Graduate of an accredited school of pharmacy.
- Current and unrestricted license in good standing.
- Licensed in the state of Kentucky to practice pharmacy, license in good standing.
- Meets or exceeds current CE requirements pursuant to Board of Pharmacy Laws.
- Existing multistate licensure in any/all of the following states is strongly preferred, or ability to apply for additional state licensures: Texas, North Carolina, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Nevada, Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Guam, Kansas, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oregon, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia.
Critical Skills
- 4+ years or more post-graduate experience in pharmacy operations, pharmacy management, clinical oversight, and patient care.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Working knowledge of computers and excellent word processing skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to effectively utilize reference materials.

Working Conditions
- This is an onsite role in Shepherdsville, KY, Monday through Friday, within a general office environment.
