Role Overview
The Privacy Engagement Director provides technical legal guidance to support Mastercard’s outreach and advocacy strategy across the evolving U.S. privacy, data, and AI regulatory landscape. Reporting to the VP Senior Managing Counsel Privacy, AI & Data Responsibility and the SVP Assistant General Counsel for Privacy, AI & Data Responsibility in the Americas, this role collaborates closely with the U.S. Privacy, AI & Data Responsibility Team, Government Affairs, and Global Privacy Engagement Lead.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor, analyze, and advise on emerging U.S. cyber, privacy, and data laws.
- Shape advocacy and engagement efforts on AI, data sharing, and regulatory proposals.
- Develop policy briefings, FAQs, and internal guidance.
- Draft and refine external messaging and legislative amendments.
- Collaborate with policymakers, trade associations, and stakeholders.
- Work cross-functionally with Public Policy, Regulatory, Legal, and Data Strategy teams.
Qualifications
- Licensed attorney in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
- University degree required; advanced degree or CIPP certification is a plus.
- Expertise in U.S. cyber, privacy and data regulatory frameworks (e.g., CCPA/CPRA, HIPAA).
- Strong understanding of the intersection between cyber, privacy, AI, and data governance.
- Experience engaging with policymakers, regulators, or industry associations.
- Excellent communication, analytical, and strategic thinking skills.
- Financial services or payment processing background is a plus.
Compensation & Benefits
The position is based in Purchase, New York with a competitive base salary ranging from $187,000 to $300,000 USD, eligibility for annual bonuses/commissions, and a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, paid leave policies, 401k with company match, and more.
