Overview
The Telecommunications Operator at Mass General Brigham (Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary) is responsible for facilitating proficient operation of a hospital communication system. This role operates clerical duties, manages various communication devices, and handles emergency and non-emergency calls with precision.
Essential Functions
Key responsibilities include:
- Operating switchboard console, alphamate pager, voice-paging system, portable radios, and cellular telephone.
- Handling incoming and outgoing calls quickly and accurately.
- Understanding and responding to code-emergency situations (medical emergency, security, fire, disaster) and alerting proper personnel.
- Serving as central control for mobile pagers and managing message relays.
- Responding to alarm systems at the switchboard and issuing keys to authorized personnel with accurate log maintenance.
- Compiling on-call information and scheduling meetings for hospital personnel.
- Resolving basic discrepancies and escalating complex issues to the appropriate department.
Qualifications & Physical Requirements
The candidate must hold a High School Diploma or Equivalent with 2-3 years customer service or call-center experience preferred. Strong phone and interpersonal skills, the ability to quickly assess situations, and the capacity to prioritize rationally are essential. The role involves various physical tasks including standing, walking, sitting, lifting (20-35 lbs), and other light physical activities.
Work Details
This per diem role is exclusively onsite at 243-245 Charles Street, Massachusetts, and includes rotating shifts with potential overnight and weekend work. The shift lengths vary with 8-hour weekday shifts and 10-hour weekend shifts.
Compensation & Benefits
The compensation is based on hourly rates ($17.36 - $21.71) along with comprehensive benefits, career advancement opportunities, differentials, premiums, bonuses, and employee recognition programs.
