Senior Data Engineer at Marsh Risk
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Data Engineer to lead the design and implementation of efficient data flows and infrastructure within our data platform. You will manage a small team of data engineers, collaborate closely with business and technology teams, and drive strategic data engineering initiatives that enable data-driven decision-making across the organization. This position will be based in Cluj-Napoca, Romania as a hybrid role that has a requirement of working three days a week in the office.

We will count on you to:
- Lead the design, development, and deployment of scalable data pipelines and architectures supporting layered data frameworks on modern data platforms
- Manage and mentor a team of data engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement
- Collaborate closely with business teams to rapidly develop data pipelines and analyses that meet evolving requirements
- Partner with central platform teams to implement features that enhance data operations efficiency and reliability
- Use and contribute to the data engineering toolset at Marsh Risk, adhering to our best practices and standards while also helping to make improvements based on your experience and project requirements
- Drive adoption of DevOps/DataOps best practices, including Git version control, pipeline-driven deployments, and CI/CD workflows
- Provide strategic guidance and technical leadership on data engineering best practices, cloud technologies (i.e. Databricks)
- Engage with stakeholders to address technical queries and promote data and analytics capabilities
- Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends to continuously improve data engineering practices
What you need to have:
- Excellent communication skills in both English and Romanian
- 5+ years of experience in data engineering roles, including leadership or team management experience
- Strong proficiency in SQL and Python, with advanced scripting and automation skills
- Extensive experience with cloud data platforms such as Databricks, Snowflake, Synapse, and cloud providers like AWS, Azure, or GCP
- Proven experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps/DataOps methodologies
- Ability to identify and proactively solve complex data-related problems
- Experience working in fast-paced, client-facing, or consulting environments is a plus.
