Overview of the Role

Mantell Associates is partnered with a leading global Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO) that provides comprehensive end-to-end services to biotech and pharmaceutical innovators. They are actively seeking an experienced and strategic Head of Business Development. This pivotal role will be based at their Spanish headquarters and will be instrumental in driving commercial growth and leading global market expansion.

Head of Business Development - Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and shape the global business development strategy to significantly accelerate revenue growth across key biotech and pharmaceutical segments.
  • Build and grow a high-performing business development team, with a strong focus on strategic account targeting, robust pipeline management, and proactive client engagement.
  • Establish and cultivate strong C-suite and executive-level relationships with both existing and prospective global clients.
  • Identify and actively pursue new market opportunities and strategic partnerships across Europe, North America, and Asia-Pacific regions.
  • Develop compelling value propositions and innovative commercial approaches tailored to complex drug development and manufacturing needs.
  • Work cross-functionally with scientific, operations, marketing, and regulatory teams to ensure commercial strategies align seamlessly with service delivery excellence.
  • Represent the organisation at major industry forums, conferences, and key customer meetings to elevate brand visibility and foster thought leadership.
  • Provide accurate forecasting, comprehensive performance reporting, and strategic insights to senior leadership and Board stakeholders.

Head of Business Development - Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Business, or a related field; an advanced degree (MBA, MS/PhD) is strongly preferred.
  • Proven experience, typically 7+ years, in business development or commercial leadership specifically within the biotech, pharmaceutical, CDMO/CRO sector.
  • Demonstrated success in leading global revenue growth initiatives, securing strategic partnerships, and closing high-value deals.
  • Deep understanding of drug development processes, CDMO business models, and critical customer decision drivers.
  • Strong commercial acumen, exceptional negotiation skills, and a proven ability to influence complex stakeholder environments.
  • Exceptional leadership skills and extensive experience in building and mentoring cross-regional teams.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills in English are required; proficiency in additional European languages is a significant plus.
