About the Senior Product Designer Role
The Senior Product Designer acts as the lead designer for the technical aspects of projects, guided by the requirements of product engineers and product managers. This role is crucial for creating technical solutions, delivering 3D data, drawings, and comprehensive technical documentation for products and services. The Senior Product Designer ensures alignment with product engineer, customer, and supplier needs, all while maintaining expected timelines and cost efficiency for the organization's long-term success.
Key Responsibilities
- Develops and designs products from initial concept through to serial production, ensuring robust and reliable design solutions.
- Provides essential product information throughout the entire lifecycle, from initial development to mass production.
- Works in close collaboration with product engineers to create and implement design concepts that accurately fulfill customer requirements.
- Maintains a strong focus on manufacturability, performance, and cost, alongside a thorough understanding of risks associated with proposed design solutions.
- Conducts detailed vehicle integration studies, addressing constraints such as physical space limitations, statutory functional requirements, and manufacturing capabilities.
- Generates precise 3D product models, including verification processes (e.g., Validat/Q-checker), within established timelines and develops action plans for any identified issues.
- Produces comprehensive production drawings for individual components.
- Creates and defines 3D files in strict adherence to both internal standards and specific customer regulations.
- Develops assembly drawings and all other necessary technical documentation for products under development.
- Manages and updates 3D files within both internal and customer data management systems.
- Facilitates the translation of 3D data formats for effective communication with suppliers, customers, and internal departments.
- Reviews project and production documentation, collaborating closely with manufacturing engineers and quality control teams.
- Establishes and defines plans for dimensional measurements of parts to ensure accuracy and quality.
- Collaborates with the sales department to assist in preparing customer offers and proposals.
- Works with the purchasing department to prepare all required documentation for procurement.
- Supplies 3D data, drawings, and other supporting materials to advance Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VA/VE) initiatives.
- Provides critical technical support to production for problem-solving up to 90 days after Start of Production (SOP+90), in coordination with the product engineer and project manager.
- Creates and maintains a comprehensive library of standard parts for efficient design and production.
- Manages and updates the Bill of Materials (BOM) and provides support for Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA).
