About the On-site Home Visitor Role at Magellan Federal
As an On-site Home Visitor, you will provide crucial support to eligible military families, including expectant parents and those with children from birth to 3 years old. This program is dedicated to enhancing military mission readiness by supporting family members' adaptation to military life, fostering healthy relationships, and creating safe, nurturing environments to prevent family violence. You will deliver a range of services, including information and referrals, parenting programs, respite care, and supervised playtime for children. Special focus is given to families assessed as being at risk for child maltreatment or family violence, offering them intensive, additional support.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide effective, timely, and confidential services to families identified as at risk for child maltreatment and/or family violence.
- Ensure the privacy and confidentiality of all client information.
- Identify and report suspected child abuse, neglect, and domestic abuse in accordance with protocols.
- Assess developmental milestones and facilitate referral procedures for indicators of special needs or developmental delays.
- Strengthen families' adaptation to parenthood and enhance parental capacity for problem-solving, building trusting relationships, and seeking help.
- Promote developmentally appropriate parenting skills, disciplinary techniques, and parent-child communication.
- Facilitate informal and formal community networks to foster positive relationships and reduce social isolation.
- Develop relationships with local community and military installation officials and organizations to maximize program effectiveness.
- Utilize community-based services and formal/informal networks to provide concrete support for families in crisis.
- Employ methods for screening, assessing, and addressing protective and risk factors associated with child abuse and neglect using a strengths-based, family-centered developmental approach.
- Maintain an up-to-date tracking system for case statuses.
- Participate in monthly conference calls and annual training events.
Job Requirements
This role demands a committed professional with specific qualifications and experience to effectively serve military families.
Experience and Education
- At least two (2) years of direct work experience in child abuse, domestic abuse, maternal/child health, or medical social work.
- Home visitation experience is required.
- For Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSW): A current, valid, unrestricted clinical license and a master’s degree in Social Work.
- For Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists (LMFT): A current, valid, unrestricted clinical license.
- For Registered Nurses (RN): A bachelor’s degree in nursing, a current unrestricted license in one of the States or U.S. territories, and at least two (2) years of direct work experience in child abuse, domestic abuse, maternal/child health, public/community health, or mental health.
Additional Requirements
- Must possess a valid driver’s license, auto insurance, and the ability to operate a motor vehicle.
- Proficiency in basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Ability to operate general office equipment (computer, phones, etc.) on most workdays.
- Strong communication and interaction skills, both in person and by telephone.
- Ability to work under time pressure and rapidly for long periods to meet deadlines.
- Must be able to travel as needed and adhere to AFSC travel policies and procedures.
- Ability to enter private homes, which may present varied access conditions.
- Capable of transporting self between office locations, private homes, and other facilities for program activities.
