Job Overview: On-site Home Visitor at Magellan Federal
Magellan Federal is seeking a dedicated On-site Home Visitor to provide essential support to military families at Fort Hood, Texas. This critical role focuses on aiding expectant parents and families with children aged birth to three, directly contributing to military mission readiness. The program aims to enhance family adaptation to military life, foster healthy relationships, and create safe, nurturing environments to prevent family violence.
As an On-site Home Visitor, you will offer a range of services including information and referrals, parenting programs, respite care, and supervised play time. You will provide more intensive support to families identified as being at risk for child maltreatment or family violence, ensuring timely, effective, and confidential assistance.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide effective, timely, and confidential services to families at risk for child maltreatment and/or family violence.
- Safeguard the privacy and confidentiality of client information with utmost diligence.
- Identify and report suspected instances of child abuse, neglect, and domestic abuse.
- Assess developmental milestones and facilitate referral procedures for children with special needs or developmental delays.
- Support parents in adapting to parenthood and strengthening their capacity for problem-solving and building trusting relationships.
- Promote developmentally appropriate parenting skills, disciplinary techniques, and effective parent-child communication.
- Facilitate the development of informal and formal community networks to reduce social isolation and build positive relationships.
- Cultivate relationships with local community and military installation officials to maximize program effectiveness.
- Utilize community-based services and networks to provide concrete support for families in crisis.
- Implement screening and assessment methods for protective and risk factors related to child abuse and neglect, using a strengths-based, family-centered approach.
- Maintain an up-to-date tracking system for case statuses.
- Participate in monthly conference calls and annual training events to ensure continuous professional development.
Qualifications and Requirements
Qualified candidates must demonstrate at least two (2) years of direct work experience in areas such as child abuse, domestic abuse, maternal or child health, or medical social work.
- Hold a current and active license as an LCSW, LMFT, or RN.
- Licensed Clinical Social Workers require a current, valid, unrestricted clinical license and a Master’s degree in Social Work.
- Registered Nurses require a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, a current unrestricted license in any U.S. state or territory, and at least two (2) years of direct work experience in relevant fields (child abuse, domestic abuse, maternal/child health, public/community health, or mental health).
- Demonstrated experience in home visitation is essential.
- Possess a valid driver’s license, auto insurance, and the ability to operate a motor vehicle.
- Proficient in basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Ability to operate general office equipment and communicate effectively with others.
- Capable of working under time pressure and rapidly for extended periods to meet deadlines.
- Willingness to travel as needed, adhering to AFSC travel policies and procedures.
- Ability to access private homes, which may include varying accessibility conditions.
- Position requires independent travel between office locations, private homes, and other facilities for program activities.
Education & Licenses
- Required Education: Bachelor's in Nursing, Master's in Counseling, or Master's in Social Work.
- Required Licenses: LCSW - Licensed Clinical Social Worker, LMFT - Licensed Marital and Family Therapist, or RN - Registered Nurse (State and/or Compact State Licensure).
