Job Description

On-site Home Visitor at Magellan Federal

Magellan Federal seeks an On-site Home Visitor to provide essential support to eligible military families at Fort Carson, Colorado. This crucial program is designed to support expectant parents and families with children from birth to three years of age, directly contributing to military mission readiness. The goal is to help family members adapt to military life, enhance their knowledge and skills for healthy relationships, and create safe, nurturing environments to prevent family violence.

The role involves offering a range of activities and services, including information and referrals, parenting programs, respite care for children, and supervised playtime. Families with children prenatal to three years old who are assessed as being at risk for child maltreatment and/or family violence will benefit from additional, more-intensive support from these vital services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide effective, timely, and confidential services to families identified as being at risk for child maltreatment and/or family violence.
  • Ensure the privacy and confidentiality of all client information.
  • Identify and report suspected child abuse, neglect, and domestic abuse.
  • Assess developmental milestones and facilitate referral procedures for indicators of special needs or developmental delays.
  • Assess and strengthen family adaptation to parenthood and parental capacity for problem-solving, building trusting relationships, and seeking help.
  • Promote developmentally appropriate parenting skills, disciplinary techniques, and parent and child communication skills.
  • Facilitate informal and formal community networks to foster positive relationships and reduce social isolation.
  • Develop relationships with local community and military installation officials and organizations to maximize program effectiveness.
  • Utilize community-based services and formal/informal community networks to provide concrete support for families in crisis.
  • Employ methods for screening, assessing, and addressing protective and risk factors associated with child abuse and neglect using a strengths-based, family-centered developmental approach.
  • Maintain up-to-date tracking systems with case status.
  • Participate in monthly conference calls and annual training events.

Required Qualifications

  • At least two (2) years of direct work experience in child abuse, domestic abuse, maternal or child health, or medical social work.
  • Must hold a current and active, unrestricted license as an LCSW, LMFT, or RN in any U.S. state or territory.
  • Licensed Clinical Social Workers must possess a current, valid, unrestricted clinical license and a master’s degree in Social Work.
  • Registered Nurses must have at least a bachelor’s degree in nursing, a current unrestricted license, and two (2) years of direct work experience with child abuse or domestic abuse, maternal or child health, public/community health, or mental health.
  • Previous home visitation experience is essential.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license, auto insurance, and the ability to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Working knowledge of basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel programs.
  • Ability to operate general office equipment.
  • Capable of communicating and interacting with others, in person and/or by telephone, to conduct business.
  • Ability to work under time pressure and rapidly for long periods to meet deadlines.
  • Must be able to travel as needed and adhere to AFSC travel policies and procedures.
  • Ability to enter private homes which may have varying access conditions.
  • Position requires ability to transport self from office locations to private homes, other offices, and facilities for training and program activities.
