New Parent Support Professional at Magellan Federal
Magellan Federal is seeking a dedicated New Parent Support Professional to provide essential support to military families at Fort Riley, KS. In this vital on-site role, you will work with expectant parents and families with children from birth to three years of age, directly contributing to military mission readiness by fostering healthy relationships and creating safe, nurturing environments for children.
Key Responsibilities
As a New Parent Support Professional, you will:
- Provide effective, timely, and confidential services for families identified as at risk for child maltreatment and/or family violence.
- Protect the privacy and confidentiality of all client information, while identifying and reporting suspected child abuse, neglect, and domestic abuse.
- Assess developmental milestones and facilitate referral procedures for indicators of special needs or developmental delays.
- Strengthen adaptation to parenthood and enhance parental capacity for problem-solving, building trusting relationships, and seeking necessary help.
- Promote developmentally appropriate parenting skills, disciplinary techniques, and parent-child communication.
- Facilitate informal and formal community networks to build positive relationships and reduce social isolation among military families.
- Develop strong relationships with local community and military installation officials and organizations to maximize program effectiveness.
- Utilize community-based services and networks to provide concrete support for families in crisis.
- Employ screening methods for assessing and addressing protective and risk factors associated with child abuse and neglect using a strengths-based, family-centered developmental approach.
- Maintain an up-to-date tracking system for case statuses and actively participate in monthly conference calls and annual training events.
Qualifications and Requirements
To be successful in this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Hold a current and active license as an LCSW, LMFT, or RN. Licenses from any state are accepted.
- For Licensed Clinical Social Workers: Possess a current, valid, unrestricted clinical license and a Master's degree in Social Work, enabling independent practice.
- For Registered Nurses: Hold at least a Bachelor's degree in Nursing with a current unrestricted license in one of the States or U.S. territories.
- Required work experience: At least two (2) years of direct work experience in child abuse or domestic abuse, or maternal or child health, or medical social work (for LCSW/LMFT). RNs require two (2) years direct work experience in child abuse or domestic abuse, maternal or child health, public/community health, or mental health.
- Demonstrated home visitation experience is essential.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license, auto insurance, and the ability to operate a motor vehicle for travel to family homes and other facilities.
- Proficiency in basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel programs.
- Ability to operate general office equipment and communicate effectively with others, both in person and by telephone.
- Capable of working under time pressure and rapidly for extended periods to meet deadlines.
- Ability to travel as needed, adhering to AFSC travel policies.
- Physical ability to enter private homes that may have varied accessibility.
