Job Description

Director of Implementation, Design, and Coaching - ELA

At Leading Educators (LE), we believe that excellent teaching is the primary driver of student success. We partner with school systems to overcome instructional challenges and ignite new possibilities through systemic solutions at the intersection of teaching, talent, and technology. We are currently seeking a Director of Implementation, Design, and Coaching to lead transformational K-8 literacy work across New York City public schools. This is a hybrid leadership role where you will own the full lifecycle of literacy implementation—from launch to measurable impact—while building sustainable systems that shift instructional practice at scale.

As the accountable lead for program implementation within an assigned district portfolio, you will translate high-level priorities into actionable plans and delivery structures. You will work at the intersection of instructional leadership, client relationship management, and coaching excellence, leading strategic conversations with district leads and school-based leaders. Beyond oversight, you will act as the lead designer and coach for your portfolio, managing a team of Design and Coaching Specialists to ensure the quality, coherence, and rigor of all work. This is a unique opportunity to directly influence how thousands of students experience literacy instruction.

What You Will Do

  • Lead Complex Implementation: Own multi-school efforts aligned to standards, translating strategy into actionable project plans with clear milestones and measurable outcomes.
  • Design Professional Learning: Facilitate high-quality professional learning that deepens literacy content knowledge and strengthens instructional leadership capacity.
  • Provide High-Impact Coaching: Support school and district leaders through lesson internalization, student work analysis, and reflective improvement cycles.
  • Manage Strategic Partnerships: Serve as the primary relationship owner within district contexts, sustaining productive partnerships while maintaining instructional rigor.
  • Drive Sustainability: Build distributed leadership and teacher leader pathways to transition ownership of instructional improvement to school-based leaders.
  • Analyze Data: Use school and district data to inform goal-setting, coaching plans, and strategy refinement.
  • Leverage AI: Apply artificial intelligence strategically to improve work quality and efficiency while exercising sound judgment.

Who You Are

  • Experienced Leader: You have at least eight years of professional experience in education, instructional leadership, curriculum implementation, or district-level support.
  • Literacy Expert: You possess K-8 literacy content expertise and are comfortable with research-based best practices and core curricula (e.g., HMH Into Reading, Wit & Wisdom, EL Education).
  • Systems Thinker: You have experience leading system readiness and pre-implementation planning, including analyzing achievement data and producing actionable reports.
  • People Manager: You have a proven track record of managing and developing staff with a focus on quality execution.
  • AI Fluent: You can identify appropriate use cases for AI and integrate them into established workflows responsibly.
  • NYC Based: You are based in New York City, authorized to work in the U.S., and able to travel locally to schools and district meetings.

Why Leading Educators?

We foster an environment where your ideas are valued, and personal growth is encouraged. By joining LE, you become part of a powerful national community of peers dedicated to making a significant impact on students and teachers. We offer a competitive compensation package specifically adjusted for the New York City market. The base salary range for this NYC-based role is $123,129 to $166,588, with a standard entry point of $144,859 for those meeting the 8-year experience requirement.

Our benefits include 100% paid medical, dental, and vision coverage for individual employees, a 4% matching 401k plan, and generous time off. New hires accrue 22 days of vacation per year, plus 16 additional paid holidays. At Leading Educators, we build on strengths, continuously learn, prioritize people, and champion success for all.
