About the Position
Are you ready to lead transformative infrastructure projects in Washington DC? Luster National is seeking a skilled Assistant Project Manager to oversee the final design and planning phases of major heavy civil rail initiatives. In this role, you’ll coordinate scope reviews, prepare cost estimates, negotiate contracts with consultants, and direct multidisciplinary teams through technical evaluations, design reviews, and construction planning. You will manage change orders, ensure schedule compliance, and drive engineering solutions in the field, collaborating with contractors, consultants, and agency stakeholders to deliver high-impact transit projects on time and within budget.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate scope review and cost estimates for final designs.
- Direct consultants during design and planning, reviewing technical details.
- Control and coordinate technical reviews of shop and working drawings.
- Confers with contractors, consultants, and Owner’s officials about project plans.
- Analyze design change orders, claims, and supplemental agreements.
- Recommend schedule changes and variations to meet deadlines.
- Develop planning data and control design costs and schedules.
- Secure approvals and schedule presentations for final design documents.
- Conduct field inspections ensuring construction conforms to plans.
- Investigate and analyze field, cost, reliability, and safety issues.
- Supervise team's work, planning and quality review of assignments.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in project management, construction management, or related field.
- 8+ years of progressively responsible project management and/or construction experience.
- 2+ years’ experience in the transit or rail industry.
- Proven negotiation and team supervision skills.
- Understanding of technical, contractual, and legal documentation.
- Experience with project controls and scheduling software (e.g., Primavera P6, Procore, MS Project).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365/Suite.
- Ability to acquire Roadway Worker Protection Training Level 2 within six months.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a related field.
- Professional certifications such as CCM or PMP.
- Experience in project management roles supporting owners.
Compensation & Benefits
