Software Developer II

Lumen is seeking a Software Developer II to join their team, focusing on building the future of AI-driven networks. This role is crucial for modernizing systems, migrating cloud data, and ensuring operational stability.

The Role

As a Software Developer II at Lumen, you will be an integral part of a team designing, developing, testing, and supporting automation, account-domain services, and cloud-based data platforms. You will focus on maintaining and enhancing account and customer domain functions, ensuring data reliability, and creating AI-ready data pipelines to support enterprise modernization. This position is critical for backfilling roles supporting modernization, cloud data migration, and operational stability across North American business systems.

Main Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, implement, and maintain software and automation solutions for data-driven subject domains, including account/customer domains.
  • Develop and maintain automation scripts for data migration, payload generation, fallout handling, and reconciliation processes.
  • Build and support data integration pipelines across source, downstream systems, and cloud platforms, ensuring data accuracy and traceability.
  • Implement monitoring, reconciliation frameworks, and audit controls to enhance operational reliability and SLA compliance.
  • Leverage Apache Spark and Databricks for large-scale data processing and modernization initiatives.
  • Support event-driven architectures using Kafka for real-time data publishing and system integration.
  • Contribute to AI and analytics enablement by ensuring data pipelines are AI-ready and aligned with governance standards.
  • Participate in design walkthroughs, code reviews, and cross-team collaboration to ensure technical quality.
  • Provide on-call and production support for critical data hub and account-domain processes.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation and support knowledge transfer.

What We Look For In a Candidate

  • 3+ years of professional software development experience.
  • Strong experience with enterprise systems, account/customer domains, and enterprise data integration.
  • Proficiency in Data Engineering & Databases: PostgreSQL (queries, migrations, performance tuning), ETL concepts.
  • Proficiency in Python, SQL, and Shell scripting for automation and data processing.
  • Hands-on experience with Apache Spark, Databricks, and distributed data processing.
  • Experience with Kafka or event-driven architectures (Kafka Connect, JDBC connectors).
  • Experience with Cloud & Infrastructure: Azure (AKS, cloud networking, SSL, deployments).
  • Proficiency in Java & Spring Boot for building and maintaining web services/REST APIs.
  • Understanding of AI-ready data pipelines, metadata governance, and analytics enablement.
  • Experience with CI/CD & Version Control: GitHub, basic DevOps, Jira workflows.
  • Experience building reconciliation, monitoring, and audit frameworks.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills.
  • Experience with Informatica is a plus.
