About Lumen's Internship Program

The Role

As a Data Enablement Intern, you will support the implementation of Lumen’s AI governance strategy in alignment with the NIST AI Risk Management Framework (AI RMF). You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to assess AI systems, refine governance policies, and translate legal requirements into actionable data practices.

  • Assist in evaluating AI systems for fairness, transparency, and accountability
  • Support drafting and refinement of AI governance policies and procedures
  • Translate legislative and regulatory requirements into operational guidelines
  • Collaborate with data privacy and security teams for compliance standards
  • Participate in cross-functional discussions to promote responsible data practices

Required Qualifications

Candidates must be enrolled at a 4-year accredited college or university and be at a rising senior level. Preferred majors include Computer Science, Public Policy, Data Science, Law, Ethics, or related fields. A strong interest in AI ethics, governance, and regulatory frameworks is essential, along with excellent communication and analytical skills. Familiarity with AI/ML concepts, MLOps, or LLMOps is a plus.

Compensation & Program Details

This is a fully remote internship in the continental US, with hourly compensation ranging from $31 to $46 depending on education and qualifications. The program runs from May 29 to August 7, 2026, and requires full commitment for the 10-week period.

Application Process

After applying, you will be invited to complete a virtual on-demand assessment followed by a video interview within 5 business days. Interviews start in October, with further rounds in November and final offers extended in December for Summer 2026.
