The Role of an Engineer I

The Engineer I role at Lumen Technologies is multifaceted, combining engineering expertise, implementation support, and a strong field focus. This position is critical for accommodating demands for growth and new services in the most practical, standard, and economical manner.

Main Responsibilities

• Prepare, track, and migrate live customer services under controlled change windows, regularly requiring out-of-hours work.
• Communicate consistently with stakeholders to manage dependencies, utilizing all available methods for clarity and providing clear updates to relevant tracking systems.
• Update provisioning system records and tracking databases with a high degree of accuracy and within specified timelines.
• Work on moderate to complex projects with cross-functional teams, often with limited guidance.
• Seek or provide guidance as necessary to gain support and develop cross-functional expertise.
• Engage internal and external stakeholders for risk mitigation and complex problem resolution.
• Coach team members and provide training on current and upcoming projects at regular intervals.
• Contribute to process documentation and work instructions for new or ongoing activities.
• Participate in training and meetings as required by supervisors or for routine duties.
• Prepare plans and specifications for new or additions to systems and networks.
• Develop and define plans for implementing or modifying existing networks to meet new or increased service demands or improve operating efficiencies.
• Assure that the most feasible, practical, and economical means to accomplish objectives are identified, with alternatives defined for management evaluation.
• Provide cost data to support capital/expense budgets for new and expanded services, technologies, and customer requirements.
• Develop project support requirements by identifying the scope of effort for all parties, defining total project requirements, communicating them, and monitoring progress and cost while producing periodic reports.
• Monitor and control project expenditures (working with project management), prepare or contribute to progress reports, define encountered problems, and recommend solutions to management.

What Lumen Technologies Looks For in a Candidate

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent education and relevant experience.
• 2+ years of related experience or a Master's Degree.
