Overview

The Director of Human Resources plays a critical role in executing the people strategy set by the VP of HR. This role leads key HR functions such as employee relations, talent acquisition, performance management, and compliance for Lucas Oil Products Inc and additional lines of business within the Lucas family.

HR Team Leadership

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supervising HR team members to foster a high-performing, service-oriented culture.
  • Promoting cross-functional collaboration to support broader business objectives.
  • Acting as a strategic partner to senior leadership on people-related decisions.
  • Coaching through regular one-on-one and team sessions to build competencies.
  • Encouraging professional development through certifications, workshops, and peer learning.

Employee Relations

The role includes developing and executing employee relations strategies:

  • Managing conflict resolution, disciplinary actions, and grievance procedures.
  • Providing guidance and mentorship to HR staff on sensitive issues.
  • Coaching on investigations, documentation, and facilitating conflict resolution.
  • Advising supervisors on effective communication and policy enforcement.

Compliance & Policy Management

Ensure adherence to labor laws and company policies:

  • Maintaining and updating employee handbooks and HR documentation.
  • Leading audits and risk assessments to mitigate liabilities.
  • Serving as the point of contact for legal and regulatory matters.

Talent Acquisition & Employee Lifecycle Management

Direct end-to-end recruitment and employee lifecycle processes:

  • Championing employer branding and candidate experience initiatives.
  • Overseeing sourcing, interviewing, selection, and onboarding processes.
  • Collaborating with hiring managers to forecast staffing needs.
  • Implementing metrics to track hiring effectiveness and time-to-fill.

Performance Management & Development

Drive performance management initiatives:

  • Setting up goal-setting and feedback systems.
  • Partnering with business leaders to create structured growth pathways.
  • Encouraging professional development and continuous improvement.

Qualifications & Requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

  • 8+ years of progressive HR experience with a minimum of 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field preferred.
  • Deep expertise in talent acquisition, employment law, and HR best practices.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and strategic advisory skills.
  • Experience in leading cross-functional teams and managing multiple priorities.
  • A commitment to an exceptional employee experience through a service-focused mindset.

Physical Requirements

The candidate must be able to work in a climate-controlled indoor environment, focus on computer screens for long periods, and be willing to travel.
