About The Opportunity

Our Public Sector Client is seeking an experienced Senior Technical Writer. This role provides critical documentation support to the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) strategic satellite communications operations. The role works within a highly technical environment to ensure the clarity, accessibility, and consistency of technical documentation for projects and related systems.

The Senior Technical Writer will provide comprehensive writing, editing, and documentation quality assurance services aligned with Government of Canada standards. The work includes creating structured, accessible, and user-focused technical content across all project phases.

Duties

  • Documentation Development: Create, revise, and maintain technical and contractual documentation for diverse audiences.
  • Quality Assurance and Standards Compliance: Review and edit documentation to meet GC, ISO 9001, and WCAG 2.2 standards.
  • Template and Tool Development: Design and maintain document templates, macros, and styles for program deliverables.
  • Technical Liaison: Collaborate with engineers, SMEs, and project managers to gather and translate complex technical information.
  • Accessibility and Inclusivity: Ensure all documentation complies with WCAG 2.2 accessibility standards.
  • Communications and Repository Management: Support development of a documentation governance plan and version control processes.

About You

  • Must possess a Certificate in Technical Writing from a recognized Canadian institution.
  • Minimum 5 years within the last 10 years as a Senior Technical Writer in IT, Telecommunications, or Hardware/Software systems.
  • Experience with SDLC or equivalent engineering lifecycle documentation.
  • Proven ability to produce installation, configuration, and operations manuals.
  • Experience liaising with engineers and subject-matter experts.
  • Expertise in developing documentation for large-scale telecommunications, including satellite and network infrastructure.
  • At least 5 years of experience with documentation templates, style guides, or automated macros.
  • Experience editing to meet ISO 9001 and WCAG 2.x or Government of Canada standards.
  • Advanced oral, written, and comprehension skills in English.
  • Secret Level Security Clearance is required.

About the Job

  • Duration: 48 weeks (approx. November 2025 - October 2026) with possible extension.
  • Location: 295 Coventry Road, Ottawa, ON.
  • Work Environment: Hybrid - primarily Ottawa-based with potential travel in Canada and overseas.
  • Additional travel and overtime budgets provided.
