Your Day as a Mechanic I

As a Mechanic I, you'll use specialized expertise in conveyors, rolling stock, or building components to handle complex repairs in your area of focus. Armed with sufficient electrical and mechanical knowledge, you will independently diagnose, prioritize, plan, and execute repairs. Collaboration with management or leadership is expected when needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work effectively in a distribution/warehouse environment, managing typical physical and environmental demands.
  • Utilize various tools for maintenance tasks requiring fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.
  • Perform specialized repairs on conveyor systems, rolling stock, or building components within a Regional Distribution Center (RDC).
  • Demonstrate strong electrical and mechanical ability for safe, independent equipment repairs within the RDC.
  • Apply trade skills, classroom knowledge, and systems experience to accurately diagnose equipment issues and perform necessary repairs.
  • Obtain or order the correct parts required for equipment repairs.
  • Maintain precise and detailed records of all repairs, replacements, and maintenance activities.
  • Adhere strictly to all safety protocols, ensuring a safe working environment for yourself and others.
  • Stay current on new technologies, equipment, and maintenance procedures through ongoing training and education.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Possess a valid state driver's license.
  • 2 years of experience in your specialty area.
  • Combination of experience and/or technical training in electrical/electronic theory up to 600 volts systems (or willingness to obtain proper training within 1 year of employment).
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 25 pounds, up to 70 pounds.
  • Capability to work safely with corrosive materials and at heights of 20+ feet.
  • If required by local regulations, certification to perform work at the Maintenance Mechanic level (e.g., electrical work in Oregon).
  • Proven record of consistently following safety requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to see objects and discriminate color effectively.
  • Experience and/or certification in welding and fabrication.
  • Proficiency in operating various maintenance and operations vehicles and equipment.
  • Experience reading blueprints, schematics, and other technical drawings.
