Tenant Support Worker at Lookout Housing + Health Society
We provide housing and a range of support services to adults with low or no income who have few, if any, housing or support options. Because the people we serve have challenges meeting basic needs and goals, we place minimal barriers between them and our services. This casual position is located at Tamura House in Vancouver, an 18-minute walk from Waterfront Skytrain Station. Shifts are 7.5 hours in length, 7 days a week, covering day, afternoon/evening, and overnight periods, including weekdays, weekends, and holidays. Days of rest will be consecutive, with schedules subject to change with two weeks’ notice. A night premium is offered for staff working 50% or more of their shift between 00:00-08:00 hours.
Position Overview: Tenant Support Worker
The Tenant Support Worker (TSW) reports to the Site Manager and operates in line with the mission and philosophy of Lookout Housing and Health Society, upholding Lookout’s Code of Ethics. The TSW's primary role is to assist residents by providing support, education, and skills training. The goal is to help tenants achieve and maintain greater independence and stability, fostering healthier living arrangements.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in tenant intakes and provide comprehensive support services and assessments.
- Identify tenant challenges, develop individualized service plans, offer crisis intervention, and assist with financial and medication administration.
- Ensure basic needs are met by engaging closely with individuals on a long-term, ongoing basis.
- Complete all necessary paperwork and maintain accurate statistical and evaluative data.
- Provide assistance to volunteers and practicum students on site.
- Undertake external work as required, where the use of a personal automobile may be beneficial.
- Comply with and actively contribute to all aspects of the health and safety program.
Qualifications & Competencies
- A related Diploma or Certificate; OR a minimum Grade 12 education combined with two (2) years of recent, related experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Familiarity with community resources, particularly those related to addiction, mental health, and harm reduction.
- Must possess a current Occupational First Aid Level 1 Certificate.
- Crisis Intervention Skills Training is considered a valuable asset.
- A Class 4 driver's License is an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and within a team setting.
- Strong capacity to manage stress and organize a diverse workload efficiently.
- Excellent communication, writing, documentation, and organizational skills.
- Ability to understand and consistently maintain appropriate clientele/worker boundaries.
- Adeptness at working with disadvantaged and challenging adults within a diverse environment.
- A quick learner with a self-motivated approach to tasks.
- Strong physical and mental ability to perform job tasks and operate job-related equipment.
- A minimum of two (2) years of sobriety is required if there has been a history of concerns related to alcohol and/or drug use.
- Successful Criminal Record Clearance for the Vulnerable Sector.
