About the role
Senior System Safety Engineer
Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control is seeking a Senior System Safety Engineer (SSE) to join their team. This role focuses on ensuring the safety of products, with a primary goal of protecting the warfighter. You will perform hazard analyses, recommend safety features, and develop and implement system safety programs, particularly supporting the Integrated Air and Missile Defense Program Area.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop hazard analyses and safety assessments.
- Analyze and recommend safety criteria for system design and procedures.
- Prepare and deliver technical presentations and documentation.
- Coordinate and lead System Safety Working Group meetings.
- Review specifications and design changes for adverse impacts to system safety.
- Participate in accident investigations and identify corrective actions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in an engineering discipline.
- Experience developing and implementing a System Safety Program IAW MIL-STD-882.
- Experience developing and evaluating system safety requirements.
- Familiarity with implementing a Software Safety Program IAW AOP-52 and DoD guidelines.
- Working knowledge of MIL-STD-882 and its associated analyses.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to make formal presentations to large groups.
- Ability to interact well in a team atmosphere with engineers, suppliers, program managers, and customers.

- Experience supporting independent government Safety Review Boards.
- Knowledge of Human Factors Engineering.
- Familiarity with missile and launcher systems.
- Model-based engineering knowledge.
- Experience with DOORS requirements application.
- Candidate should be a self-starter capable of performing tasks with little direction.
- Effective analytical problem-solving skills, with the ability to perform detail-oriented work with a high degree of accuracy.
