Intermediate Software Developer

Job Summary

As an Intermediate Software Developer at Universe, a leader in online ticketing for general admission events and part of the Live Nation Entertainment family, you will apply your passion for technology and live entertainment. This deeply technical position involves building a world-class, highly scalable Event Ticketing platform, tackling tough technical challenges, and understanding customer needs with strong empathy.

Universe maintains a start-up culture within the larger Ticketmaster/Live Nation family, offering an independent entity with its own roadmap and modern tech stack, backed by Fortune 500 resources. The team is currently undergoing a significant technological metamorphosis, migrating legacy Ruby on Rails systems and APIs to a service-centric architecture powered by Node, NextJS, and TypeScript, embracing contract-driven development.

The role is based in Toronto, ON, and is a permanent full-time position within the Ticketmaster NA – Festivals & GA (Universe) division.

What You Will Be Doing

• Develop end-to-end features across the full stack, including user-facing interfaces, components, back-end services, and data models.
• Drive quality and performance by advocating for best practice adoption in observability and performance testing.
• Support the maintenance of existing legacy systems while actively investing in and building future-centric architecture.
• Collaborate effectively with various stakeholders, such as Product Managers and UX Designers, to define requirements and deliver robust solutions.

Technical Environment

You will work with a diverse array of tools and languages including TypeScript, JavaScript, and Ruby. Key frameworks and technologies include NextJS, Node, Kafka, Postgres, gRPC, Mongo, Grafana, GraphQL, and Rails. The team utilizes container orchestration platforms like Kubernetes and practices continuous deployment to ensure a fast, efficient, and reliable technology platform for customers.

What You Need To Know (or Technical Skills)

• Minimum of 2-3 years of professional experience as a Software Developer.
• Proven experience with full-stack programming languages and tools.
• Strong communication skills to collaborate with diverse teams across domains and timezones.
• Demonstrated independence and initiative in problem-solving.
• A growth mindset, fostering continuous improvement for yourself and your teammates through feedback, pairing, and code reviews.
• Experience with any of the following technologies is a significant bonus: TypeScript, Ruby on Rails, NextJS, Node, Kafka, Grafana, GraphQL, Mongo, Postgres, Elastic, Redis, Kubernetes, Docker.
