Job Description

The Magazine

Named Canada’s best literary magazine at the 2025 National Magazine Awards, the Literary Review of Canada has prided itself on being a journal of ideas for the past thirty-five years. At a time when books coverage is shrinking dramatically, the Literary Review of Canada offers writers the real estate they need to thoughtfully respond to the country’s vast intellectual output — everything from policy and politics to history, biography, and fiction. The magazine puts the written word front and centre. In addition to reviews, its original essays and poetry provide readers with informed, engaging, and confident cultural context not found anywhere else.

The Role

As an Assistant or Associate Editor (depending on experience), you will join a small but dedicated team that produces ten print issues each year, plus original weekly material online. This is a full-time position in downtown Toronto.

Your Qualifications

  • Editing, writing, and proofreading skills.
  • Connections with freelance writers or ability to develop them.
  • Basic knowledge of InDesign and Photoshop.
  • A curious mind and a love for reading.

Compensation

  • $50,000–$60,000 depending on experience.
  • Two weeks of paid vacation, plus a holiday shutdown period each December.
  • A health care spending account.

Applying

Reach out with a cover letter and let us know about your editing skills, what you've been reading, and why you might like to join Canada’s best literary magazine. Apply through LinkedIn or email operations (at) reviewcanada.ca.
