Baker

Levain Bakery is seeking a passionate and skilled Baker to join our NOHO team. The Baker will be responsible for maintaining the high quality and consistency of our products, ensuring every item meets our standards of excellence. The ideal candidate has in-depth knowledge of baking, strong problem-solving instincts, and a passion for accurately following recipes and protocols.

PEOPLE

  • Facilitate open, clear, and timely communication with your team members and management.
  • Contribute to team pre & post-shift meetings and ask questions or request clarification when necessary.
Training and Development:
  • Complete your required role training and apply all skills learned to your position.
  • Stay up to date on MIX: complete ALL new modules for current and new product launches and operating procedures.
  • Participate in training sessions to improve product knowledge and baking production.
  • Stay informed about new products, procedures, and promotions.
Brand Ambassadorship:
  • Embody and promote the values and standards of Levain Bakery.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive work environment that encourages teamwork and excellence.
CUSTOMER
Customer Service:
  • Occasionally interact with customers, answering questions about our baked goods.
  • Ensure that the bakery environment is welcoming and inviting for all customers.
OPERATIONS
Baking and Preparation:
  • Bake bread, cakes, muffins, cookies, and other baked goods according to Levain Bakery’s recipes and standards.
  • Measure, mix, weigh, shape, and prepare various products, ensuring proper consistency and following specific techniques and guidelines.
  • Monitor baking times and temperatures to ensure products are baked to perfection.
  • Manage daily pars to ensure all baked goods meet quality standards and customer demands.
Quality Control:
  • Monitor product quality and freshness and ensure proper FIFO standards are followed.
  • Follow and comply with established procedures, including weights and measures, health and sanitation, and safe work practices.
  • Ensure all baked goods meet Levain Bakery’s quality standards.
  • Regularly check on ingredients and finished products to maintain consistency.
  • Spot check finished products: taste, smell, feel, and assess overall visual consistency.
Store Compliance:
  • Understand compliance with health department regulations and baking standards.
  • Arrive to station on time, in uniform, and ready to work.
  • Work all scheduled shifts and attend required trainings and meetings.
Inventory & Ordering Management:
  • Ensure baking ingredients are appropriately stocked using FIFO (first in, first out) processes.
  • Follow department procedures for preparing, storing, rotating, and stocking of product.

Requirements

  • Minimum 1-2 years of baking experience.
  • Open availability: ability to work mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to lift/push 50 pounds.
  • Stand/walk for an 8-hour shift (excluding a ½ hour break); some locations require walking up and down stairs.
  • Read and communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Utilize basic computer skills (Email, Microsoft Office).
  • Must have valid DOH Certification & additional regional required food handlers’ certifications.
