About the Spanish Latam Language Specialist Role at Thermo Fisher Scientific

Thermo Fisher Scientific Language Services is looking for a Spanish Latam Language Specialist with experience in clinical translation and quality assurance to join their internal team. This role operates on a standard Monday-Friday schedule within an office environment.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage the final quality of assigned translations to ensure a high quality standard.
  • Run language assets, e.g., translation memories, terminology, and style guides.
  • Perform occasional linguistic tasks including initial translation, revision, and client feedback implementation.
  • Perform quality checks on clinical translations (ICFs, protocols, IBs, patient diaries, etc.).
  • Develop and maintain terminology and style guides for the language.
  • Ensure Spanish Latam translation memories are updated.
  • Set and execute linguistic quality assurance process for the assigned language globally as required.
  • Use CAT technology to monitor quality of outsourced language translations and external suppliers.
  • Analyze language quality issues and work on any quality improvement plans with the project management team.

Educational and Professional Requirements

Applicants should meet the below educational/professional requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in translations, linguistics or language studies with significant translation studies from a recognized higher education institution.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Native Language: Spanish – any Latin American variant.
  • CAT/TMS Tool Experience: Required.
  • Terminology and TM Experience: Proven experience required.
  • Organizational Skills: Proven skills of multi-tasking, time management, organization, and attention to detail.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Software Proficiency: Proficiency in MS Office suite.
