Overview

This role validates and tracks credits due to insurance companies, patients, and other payers, prepares refund requests, posts payments, and supports cash management duties. Essential Duties & Responsibilities

The Refund Specialist III will:

  • Maintain and process work queue items accurately within timelines.
  • Analyze account activity to determine refund eligibility and correct payment handling.
  • Work with government and commercial payers to resolve overpayments.
  • Collaborate with internal teams on complex refund-related issues.
  • Identify trends for process improvements and reduce rework.
  • Review and resolve charge corrected and non-charge corrected invoices.
  • Submit overpayment requests using payer portals.
  • Prepare Refund Request Forms with supporting documentation.
  • Maintain HIPAA patient confidentiality standards.
  • Meet or exceed department KPIs and productivity targets.

Qualifications

Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent, 5+ years of medical billing experience, strong knowledge of medical terminology, experience with payor contracts, 4+ years of posting experience and strong Excel and communication skills.
